Join #PRStudChat for the “Millennials in the Workforce” Twitter Chat on July 19th

PRSTUDCHATIn 2015, a Newsweek article quoted Anthony Carnevale, director and research professor from Georgetown University’s Center on Education who stated, “The millennial generation is still lagging in the workplace, just as it did last year. It makes up about 40 percent of the unemployed in the U.S.”

How are Millennials finding work in 2016? What kind of opportunities exist post-graduation and how do you uncover them? On Tuesday, July 19th at 8:30 p.m. ET, the #PRStudChat community gathers on Twitter to discuss the topic of Millennials in the Workforce. Leading the discussion will be our special guest expert, Maureen Judge, an award-winning filmmaker and the director / producer of the cross-platform documentary, My Millennial Life.

The night of 19th, we’ll be diving into a discussion about Millennials with a focus on how to find work after graduation, networking opportunities, and how relationships can be affected by underemployment and unemployment. Our community will share insights on:

  1. Why are graduates having trouble finding work with a future?
  2. Is there a difference between a job and a career?
  3. What are the best ways for Millennials to network and pursue career opportunities?
  4. What do you think is the weak link between post-secondary education and industry?
  5. How important is mentoring as Millennials explore their careers?
  6. What are good resources for Millennials to help them decide their career future?
  7. How does underemployment / unemployment affect graduating students in terms of relationships and housing?
  8. What advice would you give to Millennials who want to pursue their career dreams?
  9. What does the future look like for Millennials and for our society?

…and much, much more!

We’re looking forward to a really informative and dynamic Twitter chat session with Maureen Judge, our community, and Millennial friends. Be sure to send your questions and tweets to @PRStudChat, @dbreakenridge or @valeriesimon. You can also post your questions in the #PRStudChat LinkedIn Group. See you on the 19th!

A little More about My Millennial Life

My Millennial Life is a documentary that portrays the adventures of five dynamic 20-somethings as they launch themselves and find obstacles and opportunities along the way. Maureen Judge’s documentary is a provocative feature-length film about big dreams, crushing disappointments, friendship, career, love, and taking your place in the world. The featured subjects are often more educated than their parents, yet they’re finding it harder than ever to get where they want to go. They’re living the bleak reality of 2015 where over 40 percent of people in their age group are either unemployed or underemployed.

My Millennial life is an entertaining, humorous and honest look at a group of resourceful, charming and talented individuals. Through their eyes, we watch them struggling to find jobs, pay off huge student debts, form lifelong relationships and ultimately launch themselves and make their marks.

 A Little More About #PRStudChat

It began with a simple question asked by Angela Hernandez, then President of PRSSA at Central Michigan University (CMU). “Is PR Right for me?” A follow-up blog post by PR 2.0 expert Deirdre Breakenridge inspired a series of direct messages on Twitter between Breakenridge and fellow PR industry pro, Valerie Simon. This was an important question and one that should be explored beyond one student or one blog post. Why not build a community to help students across the country, and even the globe, learn from the experience and perspective of industry professionals… A community where everyone can learn and grow together.
