PRStudChat Announcement: Tips for Strategic Public Relations Planning

PRStudChatOn Thursday, March 13, 2014 at 8:30 p.m. ET, #PRStudChat will present “Tips for Strategic Public Relations Planning” for our students, educators and professionals. The session will focus on strategic planning in public relations and the ever-changing challenges confronting PR professionals. Students will get a chance to test their knowledge of PR planning, and professionals will have the opportunity to share insights and experiences.

Our host and presenter for the session, Martha Whiteley, is a Public Relations professional now teaching the next generations of PR practitioners. Martha is a former corporate communications manager for Panasonic headquarters, and a corporate communications and public relations consultant. She is an adjunct faculty member at Seton Hall University, and teaches Strategic Public Relations for the Rutgers University Public Relations Certificate Program.  She has written a guest post for PRSA on “Strategic Public Relations Planning – Positioning for Success.” You can visit Martha Whiteley Public Relations on Facebook or follow her on Twitter (@martha18).

The session will include questions on PR strategic planning that will challenge participants’ knowledge of concepts and practical applications. A few of the questions that we’ll be asking our community members will be:

Q1: What does it mean to be strategic in public relations planning?

Q2: What is the difference between strategies and tactics?

Q3: What are the most important elements to consider in conducting a public relations audit?

Q4: What are the most important reasons to set measurable public relations objectives?

Q5: Why do you think two-way communication is so important to the success of public relations?

Q6: What are some tools you need to be a PR superstar?

…and much, much more!

We hope you’ll join us on Thursday, March 13th at 8:30 p.m. ET for a dynamic discussion on strategic public relations. If you have any suggestions, please post them in our LinkedIn Group. See you on the 13th!

A Little More About PRStudChat:

It began with a simple question asked by Angela Hernandez, then President of PRSSA at Central Michigan University (CMU). “Is PR Right for me?” A follow up blog post by PR 2.0 expert Deirdre Breakenridge inspired a series of direct messages on Twitter between Breakenridge and fellow PR industry pro, Valerie Simon. This was an important question and one that should be explored beyond one student or one blog post. Why not build a community to help students across the country, and even the globe, learn from the experience and perspective of industry professionals… A community where everyone can learn and grow together.
